Skype

Hey, how's it going guys? Today I'm gonna be explaining a technology that has revolutionized communication. It is called skype. You guys probably have used this, and if not, you must of heard of it. Even if you use this technology, you probably don't know a lot of the features of this technology that I am going to explain in this blog. I am going to start with the basics for the people that don't know anything about this technology. Skype is a communicating device in which you can talk through a microphone, video chat through a webcam, and instant messaging through the internet. You need the internet to run this device. You can talk to people all around the world FOR FREE! The only catch is that the person who you are talking to has to also have skype which is not hard to download. All you have to do is go to the skype website and follow the steps to download this technology. You can use skype literally everywhere like on your ipad, android, iphone, and tablet. On skype, you have to make your own account with a unique username which is a feature of skype that I really love. You can also call phone numbers but for that you have to buy skype credit, which is not at all expensive.

This video is a great video to learn all about skype.
You can learn all about what skype users write on this link (skype testimonials). Most of the people love this piece of software and say that it reduces their costs for telephones dramatically. This information technology does not cost anything to download, however if you want to make calls to phone numbers, then you have to buy skype credits. This software is very easy to understand and follow. I think this technology will keep on improving and it attracts all kinds of users. Whether you are 15 or 50, it doesn't matter because everyone uses this app! I will definitely recommend this app to anyone. This technology has a bright future

Viber

Viber

Summary

"Viber is a proprietary instant messaging voice over internet protocol application for smartphones developed by viber media." I couldn't define viber as well as wikipedia   itself has put it so I just used it's definition. You can do many things on viber such as exchanging videos, images, and audio media messages. This software is available for Android, Blackberry OS, iOS, series 40, symbian, bada and windows phone. It works for both 3G and wifi networks. There is also voice calling in viber but it is only available on iPhone, Android and Nokia's windows phones. Those are pretty much all it's functions. It's really easy to add contacts....Actually you don't even have to add contacts when viber does it for you. You can call all around the world...........FOR FREE!

There is also a website where you can learn all about viber before downloading it on your smartphone. There is also a FAQ(frequently asked questions) where you can get your questions answered. Here's the link (www.viber.com).

Evaluation/Opinion/Reflection

This is a video explaining what viber can do
This app costs absolutely nothing. There's no costs to this app after you download it and it does not cost money to download it. People just love this app and you can read all the reviews on the app store reviews if you have an iPhone and you can read the reviews for android on their play store. For the rest, I don't really know how to get reviews but you can watch a video which can tell you if it's good or bad but in my opinion, it's the best app I have ever used.

This is a review video made by a person on YouTube.
You can find many reviews of viber on the internet by just typing in "viber app review" either on Google or on YouTube. The best thing about viber is that you can get the call right on your phone and you don't have to log on or anything which is unlike other apps. This app is a very to understand. On the iPhone, it is just like the normal phone app that you use everyday. I think that the only downside to this app is that the person that you're calling also has to have viber otherwise it's useless. I would definitely recommend this app to all of my friends and family. This is the best app that I've used in a very long time. If you want to learn how to use viber, the videos I posted will tell you everything about it. This is all I have to say about viber.

                                     Dropbox

 Overview and Summary
Dropbox is a technology that lets you access your folders everywhere you go, whether it's on your phone, your laptop or your PC. There is a special folder on each of those devices and when you put one file into that dropbox folder it automatically synchronizes your other devices and that file appears on all your devices in the drop box folder. Dropbox was founded by two MIT graduates Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi. Drop box uses a freemium business model which means that users are offered a free account with a set storage and they get offered paid accounts for users that need more storage space. There are a lot of add ons to dropbox, SendToDropbox which allows users to email files to dropbox and MacDropAny which allows users to sync any folder on their computer to dropbox.

Evaluation
People absolutely love this app. They say that it makes their life so much easier.
(http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2343852,00.asp) This website has an overview and comments about dropbox and they are mostly positive. This piece of technology can come free but only with a specific amount of storage size. You can purchase better deals and more storage size from dropbox and become a premium member.

My opinion/Reflection
My opinion on this app is that it's the best app I ever used. Last year, I kept on losing my USB and forgetting in class and I was really annoyed with that. Emailing the files to myself was too much of a hassle and I was tired of it. I decided to search for something that would keep my files on the computer without me carrying a USB around and something that would be quick and convenient. My friend recommended dropbox and I absolutely LOVED it! It made my life so much easier because I had three courses in one semester in which saving and keeping files in portable storage was important and this was a very quick way to keep my files. Dropbox is very easy to understand and people can learn it very quickly through youtube videos or you can easily learn by yourself. This technology is ready for the next generation because it provides a very easy way too keep all your files safe and not lose them. The next generation is going to have a lot to do one computers and saving files and so I think this will be a very useful tool in the future for students and adults.

Sporcle

                             Sporcle

Evaluation
Sporcle is a website that contains quiz games with a given time limit. It was released on July 2007. The games on sporcle are on specific subjects for example they will give you pictures of all circle or square objects and tell you to identify what they all are in a given time limit. There are more topics than just shapes on sporcle. They can range from presidents of USA to disney films. Matt Ramme, the website's founder says that the name sporcle was inspired by the word 'oracle'.There is also a mobile app of sporcle which was released on February, 23rd, 2010 for iPhone and an app for android was released later on in 2010. There was also an update on the apps in which they added one new trivia game everyday. Here are some pictures of this website.

General overview of front page.

My opinion
I chose to do a blog on this website because it seemed very interesting to me. I think that we could gain a lot of knowledge from this website if used properly. I myself am very addicted to it and can`t stop playing the games that it provides. Once you get hooked, I don`t think it`s easy to get off but it can provide you a lot of general knowledge.

Analysis
One technology that I find really interesting is something called kick starter. This is a technology where a lot of interesting projects and technologies can be discovered. All you have to do is make a video advertising your project and then the people who like it will donate money. The way to donate money is really easy. You just have to come up with deals that you can give to the people who are interested such as $10 or $20 and so on. You can also give prizes away of what your advertising to the people who donate the most.

My opinion
My opinion of this is really positive. I love the way that people can raise money for good causes and people who like what you post can donate. The only thing that I don't like about this is that Canadians have a hard time time donating money and starting up kickstarter campaigns. This website is mostly USA based. The better story is that Canadians have another place they can do very similar things. That websit's name is indiegogo.com. It's almost the same as kickstarter but Canadian.
